Colorful Beehive, Sensory play · Free Crochet Pattern

I made 7 colors to form a circular hive, but you can make as many as you want, depending on the colors you have available.

Materials

  •  Lily Sugar ‘N Cream cotton yarn in the colors you want to use for the bees, white, and black.

  • 4.00 mm crochet hook

  • Yarn needle

  • White glue (optional)

  • Scissors

  • Polyfill stuffing

Instructions

Abbreviations used in my patterns:

Sc Single crochet

Sl St Slip stitch

Hdc Half double crochet

Dc Double crochet

Tr Triple crochet

Inc Increase: make two stitches in the same stitch.

Dec Decrease: crochet two stitches together.

At the end of each row or round, you will see a number in parentheses; this number represents the number of stitches you should have at the end of each row or round. For example, if you see (12), it means that after completing the instructions for that row or round, you should count 12 stitches.

Here's the video to make this beautiful little set! It’s in Spanish but hope it can guide you as well.

Let's get crocheting!

  2. 1 ch, turn and continue with 1 sc, 1 hdc, 2 hdc, 2 hdc, 1 hdc, 1 sc (8), leave a long tail for sewing onto the body.

Assembly

To assemble your bees, you simply have to sew the wings onto the body. I sewed them right over the color changes to hide it, and you're done!

To make the beehives a bit more stable and rigid, I gave them a bath in white glue and water, an idea I saw on TikTok from someone who made a woven sphere for their Christmas tree, and it seemed like a good idea to try for this project. I made a reel of the process, and you can find it on Instagram if you'd like to see it... Turned out great!
