Pin for Teachers · Free Crochet Pattern
Here in the USA, during one week in May, we celebrate teachers and all the work they do for children, so I’m bringing you this cute pin that can be a lovely gift for teachers! I hope you like it!
Materials
Lily Sugar'n Cream cotton yarn in black, cream, yellow, gray, fuchsia, red, green, and brown
3.75 mm crochet hook
Hot glue gun
Scissors
Safety pin
Felt
Ribbon printer (optional)
Cardstock and markers to make a name tag (optional)
Instructions
Abbreviations used in my patterns:
sc – single crochet
sl st – slip stitch
hdc – half double crochet
dc – double crochet
ch – chain
inc – increase: make two stitches in the same stitch
dc inc – double crochet increase: make two double crochets in the same stitch
At the end of each row or round, you'll see a number in parentheses. This number indicates how many stitches you should have at the end of that row or round. For example, if you see (12), it means you should count 12 stitches when you've completed that part of the instructions.

Teacher Pin!
Pencil
We’ll work the pencil in rows, so at the end of each row, make a chain and turn your work to continue. To change colors, do so in the last yarn-over of the final stitch in the previous color.
Slip knot, ch 2, work 1 sc in the 2nd ch from hook (1)
1 inc (2), change to cream
1 sc, 1 inc (3)
3 sc (3), change to yellow
5–13. 3 sc (3), change to gray at the end of Row 133 sc (3), change to fuchsia
15–16. 3 sc (3), fasten off
Secure the yarn ends with a small knot (optional) and glue them down on the back with hot glue. Trim any excess.
Apple
Magic ring, 6 sc (6)
6 inc (12)
1 sc, 1 inc repeat 6 times (18)
sl st, ch 1, dc inc, dc, hdc, hdc, sc, sc, sc, sc, sl st, sc, sc, sc, sc, hdc, hdc, dc inc, dc, finish with a sl st in the first st and fasten off
Stem
Slip knot, ch 4, working from 2nd ch from hook: 3 sl st
Leaf
Slip knot, ch 3, from 2nd ch from hook: 1 sc, 3 sc in last ch to work around, 1 sc on the other side, fasten off
Assembly
Position and glue the apple onto the pencil. Attach the ribbon or cardstock label. Cut two small slits in the felt to slide the safety pin through. Secure the felt and safety pin in place with hot glue all around the edges and underneath the pin.
You can also handwrite the name of the teacher!
