Free Pattern: Crochet Bee Keychains for Any Special Moment

This is a beautiful project to make at any time to show someone special how much you care. You can use them on backpacks, purses, or as keychains. To make them, I used the bee design I created for the color-matching game, and by adding magnets, I gave them that cute little detail of a kiss or hug between the bees. It’s a super simple project, perfect for beginners in crochet. And remember, this is a unique and personal way to express your feelings or create sweet moments with someone you care about.

Depending on where you place the magnets, the bees will either give each other a kiss or come together on the side, as if giving each other a hug.

Materials:

Lily Sugar ‘N Cream cotton yarn in yellow, white, and black.
4.50 mm crochet hook
Yarn needle
Pins
Stitch marker
4 magnets (1/2 inch)
2 keychain pieces and rings
Scissors
Polyfill stuffing
SuperGlue
Pliers for attaching the keychain

Instructions:

Abbreviations used in my patterns:

Pb: Single crochet
Cd: Chain
Mpa: Half double crochet
Pa: Double crochet
Am: Increase (work two stitches in the same stitch)
Dm: Decrease (work two stitches together)

At the end of each row or round, you'll see a number in parentheses; this represents the number of stitches you should have at the end of the row or round. For example, if you see (12), it means you should count 12 stitches after finishing the instructions for that row.

Bee Keychains

Bee x 2

Magic ring, 6 sc (6)
6 inc (12)
1 sc, 1 inc x 6 (18)
18 sc (18), change to black
18 sc (18), change to yellow 6-7. 18 sc (18), change to black
18 sc (18), change to yellow 9-10. 18 sc (18) Stuff the body and position the 2 magnets where you want them—at the back if they’re going to give a kiss or on the sides if they’re going to give a hug. Make sure the magnets in both bees are placed so that they attract each other when they come together.
1 sc, 1 dec x 6 (12)
6 dec (6), close and hide the yarn.

Wings (white, x2)

Magic ring, 6 sc, tighten the magic ring.
1 ch, turn and continue with 1 sc, 1 hdc, 2 hdc, 2 hdc, 1 hdc, 1 sc (8), leave a long yarn tail for sewing to the body.

Assembly

To assemble your bees, simply sew the wings onto the body. I sewed them right over the color changes to keep it hidden. Position the eyes and secure them with a drop of superglue. Use blush powder to paint the cheeks near the eyes. Finally, attach the keychain between the wings and they’re ready!
